Turritella Agate Long Teardrop Riveted Saddle Hinge Earrings in Sterling Silver

I fabricated a sterling silver "saddle" component and riveted through top drilled, long and lean teardrop shaped Chrysocolla stones.

I have added a deep patina to the sterling silver "saddle" and sterling silver lever back ear wires.

Turritella Agate is the popular name used for a brown, translucent to semi-transparent, fossiliferous agate found in the Green River formation of Wyoming.  It contains large fossil snails that stand out in a white-to-tan color that contrasts with the brownish agate.  Interestingly, this organic gem material was actually incorrectly named decades ago when the fossils within the stone were thought to be members of the marine Turritella genus, when in fact they are a member of the freshwater snail, Elimia tenera.  It became so widely known as Turritella Agate, that this is the name that it is most known as.

These earrings measure approximately 2 5/8" from the top of the sterling silver lever back ear wires.
